Honouring The Life And Legacy Of Chief Odinma

The burial of late Chief Godwin Okeleke Odinma, fondly known as Okelemkpe Isama of Ndobu Igbodo, was marked with series of events that brought together family, friends, and well-wishers to honour his life and legacy. Chief Odinma, who passed away at the age of 79, was a respected figure in Ndobu, Igbodo community.

The rites commenced on Friday, 3rd January 2025, as the body of the late Chief was moved from the Glory of God mortuary in Issele-Uku to his residence in Ndobu, Igbodo. A solemn procession accompanied the body to the family home, where the interment took place amidst prayers and traditional rites befitting his esteemed status.
Music was supplied by two traditional Okanga bands and Renowned Sir Onwemmadu Emefiele Musical Band from Akumazi Umuocha. Their vibrant tunes added a joyful atmosphere to the ceremonies, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of the community and celebrating the life of a man who left an indelible mark.

On Saturday, 4th January 2025, a grand reception and entertainment was held at Chief Emma Mbulu primary School, located in the Ndobu quarter of Igbodo. The event saw a large turnout of family members, friends, and well-wishers who came to pay their respects and celebrate the life of the late Chief Odinma. The reception was marked by live performances by Sir Joe Morgan and his band, delicious meals, and heartfelt tributes. Okpala group of Ndobu (traditional Red- Hat group) performed with the presentation of traditional live goat to the three sons of the late Isama, whom followed their father’s footsteps as Ikpala.
The final phase of the burial ceremonies occurred on Sunday, 5th January 2025, at the Odinma compound in Ndobu quarter. This final entertainment provided an opportunity for extended family and community members to gather once more, sharing memories and offering prayers for the repose of his soul, with live music provided by Chief Gabriel Ugbekile. During the ceremonies, the late Chief’s first son, Mr. Onyeka Fico Odinma, expressed heartfelt gratitude to all who attended the burial and those who stood by the family during their father’s illness. He specifically appreciated Dr. Otado Christian Mbulu for his fatherly role and unwavering support throughout the trying period. He expressed appreciation to Idumu Umu-Ogodo, Ndobu community, and the entire Igbodo Kingdom, particularly to HRM, Nkeobikwu Osadume 1 of Igbodo Kingdom for gracing the occasion. Onyeka’s words underscored the immense love and care shown to the family during a challenging time. Mr. Onyeka at this juncture expressed appreciation to Chief Peter Ozili and his entire family for always being there for the family.
Chief Godwin Okeleke Odinma will be remembered for his leadership, contributions to the community, and the love he shared with those around him. His passing is a significant loss, but his legacy they say will continue to inspire those he left behind. He is survived by wife, Mrs. Mabel Odinma, twelve (12) children, thirty-five (35) grandchildren and three (3) great grandchildren.
